The story begins with Paul W. Stewart's (founder of the Black American West Museum) extraordinary search and discovery of a past not recorded in conventional history books or portrayed in pop culture. His search for the "true colors" of the West has taken him to nearly every corner of the West, gathering personal artifacts, memorabilia, newspapers, legal documents, clothing, letters, photographs, and oral histories.
